Finally, the much anticipated return of the Premier League has kicked off and top performances have not taken long to come. During the opening weekend, there were top displays in all games.

However, there were players whose overall performances stood out from the rest. Sportychefs has curated a list of the top 5 opening weekend displays in the new season of the Premier League.

The Nertherlands International started the season opener from the bench as he has been trying to get match fit ahead of the showdown. The new Manchester signing from Bologna wasted no time to introduce himself to the league on his debut for the club.

He was substituted into the game in the 61st minute as he came on to make his Premier League debut for Manchester United. The forward flicked home the winner for the home side in the 87th minute of the game. Zirkzee capped it off with a top celebration.

His brilliant display earned him the Premier League MOTM award giving him a debut performance to remember.

 

4) Danny Welbeck – Everton 0-3 Brighton

The former Arsenal and Manchester United forward seems to be ageing like fine wine. Danny Welbeck grabbed a goal and an assist as his side, Brighton, brushed past Everton.

A game slated for an afternoon kick off, the Seagulls completely bossed from beginning till the end. Danny Welbeck first found the net after he capped off a brilliant counter attack with a nice finish in the 56th minute.

His assist came in the 87th minute of the match as the Seagulls wrapped up a convincing display with another brilliant attacking move.

The 33 year-old would hope for another injury free season as he leads Brighton’s attack in their season endeavours.

Another Star-Boy of the Premier League opening-weekend is Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal winger scored and provided assist as the Gunners ran out 2-0 winners at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The England International continued from where he stopped last season as his brilliant displays were on show once more. He played a brilliant cross to the path of Kai Havertz for the German to open the scoring.

Bukayo Saka was not to be left out of the scoring party as he created enough room for himself before slotting home at the near post to seal the win.

 

2) Mohamed Salah – Ipswich 0-2 Liverpool

The ‘Egyptian King’ put up a stellar display as the Reds defeated new boys, Ipswich Town. Mohamed Salah and the reds initially had a tough time breaking down the promoted side and to defend for most of the first half.

However, the second half was very contrast to  what was seen in the first, as Liverpool completely outplayed Ipswich Town. Mo Salah grabbed an assist in the 60th minuted as he set up Diogo Jota to calm the storm in their midst.

The former Roma man finally got his goal five minutes later as the Reds ran out comfortable winners at the end. Virgil van Dijk played a brilliant 40-yard pass to the Egyptian who controlled well and had a little exchange with Szoboszlai before netting his goal.

Mohamed Salah became the Premier League’s best opening day scorer with nine strikes in season curtain-raisers with his goal.

The Manchester City midfielder was the best Star-Boy of the opening weekend games. Mateo Kovacic scored what proved to seal Manchester City’s win against his former side, Chelsea.

The Croatian had an impressive overall performances as he stepped up in Rodri’s absence with a brilliant goal. The former Real Madrid man was everywhere for his side as he was involved in interceptions, passes, goals, blocks,and tackles.

His progressive ball carries also helped the Cityzens turn defense into attack. This was surely one of his best performances in the Sky-blue shirt. He would be glad he capped it with a nice goal. He is the best Star-Boy of the Opening Weekend in the Premier League.
