Nigeria has been blessed with loads of talented strikers throughout it’s football history. This position in football has been the most decorative in the country and being a player in that position comes with a lot of pressure. Down the years, Nigeria had strikers like Nwankwo Kanu, Ikechukwu Uche, Emmanuel Emenike, John Utaka and a host of others.

The present age has brought about strikers who have different playing styles to what the country had in the past. Strikers like Paul Onuachu, Terem Moffi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi, Victor Osimhen, and Victor Boniface. The last 2 are to be paired against each other in this article.

The best between ”The Victors” will be based on;

  • Achievements

  • Goals and Assists Record

  • Work Rate

  • Club Status

Let’s begin then.

1) Achievements

Victor Osimhen, who is the present CAF African Footballer of the Year,  led SSC Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

The Napoli man also has 4 Top scored awards to his name including the Seria A top scorer award. He has won 1 Player of the season award, FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015, and an U-23 African Cup to his name.

Victor Boniface on the other hand has 2 top scorer awards to his name. Alongside that is the 2023/24 Bundesliga Title where he helped his club to an ”Invincible season”.

The Leverkusen forward also won the DFB Pokal in the same Invincible season. He has also won 2 Norwegian League titles in his young but illustrious career.

This round was keenly contested but Victor Osimhen takes it.

Osimhen 1-0

2) Goals and Assists Record

Some strikers are just built to bang in goals after goals after goals. ”The Victors” possess the ability to provide for their teammates when they are in positions to do so.

Let’s take a look at Victor Osimhen’s total;

The African Footballer of the Year has scored a total of 114 goals in his career. Also, he has provided a total of 28 assists in 228 appearances.

Now to Victor Boniface’s total;

The top forward has scored a total of 61 goals and 30 assists in 151 career appearances.

This shows Victor Boniface has a better goals scoring ratio than Victor Osimhen. However, both have scored loads of goals so this section ends in a point for both strikers

Osimhen leads 2-1

3) Work Rate

Both players are players that like to get physical with whoever marks them. This help them to drag the defender, free up a teammate, and place themselves in a great position to either score or assist.

Another aspect of work rate they both possess is the ability to track back to help the defense line. The way strikers are used nowadays normally require this ability but to ”The Victors” it is something that they perform frequently.

Who does it better though?

Victor Osimhen has more work rate than Victor Boniface. This takes the Napoli striker to a 3-1 lead.

4) Club Status

At Leverkusen, Victor Boniface faces stiff competition from Patrick Schick and Amine Adli. Victor Boniface is still preferred on more occasions than the other strikers aforementioned.

On the other hand, at Napoli, Victor Osimhen is a mainstay in the team’s first eleven week in week out. He is the club’s key attacking source and a key source of goals and victories.

Both Victors have good club statuses but this round goes to Victor Osimhen again which makes the scoreline 4-1.

5) National Involvement

It is a privilege to have these two as strikers in a national team.

Osimhen was called up to the National team earlier than Boniface but so far Osimhen seems to be the main man of the team.

Victor Boniface is yet to gather up national team experiences but he has shone when called upon. The Leverkusen man has also become one of the fans favourite in the national team.

No point awarded here.

To Conclude, ”The Victors” can be a very deadly tool when used together in the national team. However, this hypothesis is yet to be tested for a period of time by the country.

For this showdown, Victor wins by a scoreline of 4-1 but doesn’t take anything from the fact that these two strikers are great strikers regardless of their youthful age.
